The Extreme Defensive Balance – 3-Team Drill is a fast-paced transition exercise that trains players to recover on defense after offensive actions, while facing numerical disadvantages. With three rotating teams, the drill simulates constant changes of possession, forcing defenders to sprint back, communicate, and protect the basket. This format adds competitiveness, game realism, and high physical demand — making it ideal for sharpening transition habits and building defensive resilience.

Initial layout and description

We divided the group into three teams. Two teams start with a jump start the exercise. The computer is in ‘standby’ you should go to the line of the bottom of the basket to the one you are attacking.

It is very likely that you have a number of transitions in both directions before you make a basket. At that time, a player of the team in ‘standby’ you should catch the ball and get from the bottom line of the basket where noted. The other players must be in the defense field to be able to get the ball from the kick-off of the background.

Note: in no case will we allow a single player without the ball to the team’s incoming first-directly to field offensive.

Variants

  • You can only finish with an entrance to the basket.
  • You can only pull 2 points.
  • Only you can pull out of the restricted zone.
  • You can only pull 3 points.
  • You play without boat.
  • There is a limit of boats per player each time that it receives.
  • There is a limit of passes per team on field of attack.
  • In case of having equal numbers, there is that to make a foundation single or collective technical or tactical marked previously by the Coach.
  • Can be made with just one ball. In this case, the exercise is more realistic and tunes the speed of reaction of the players having to get behind the back line in case of fit basket or pass to the bands for the output of contrataque in case of theft, recovery or rebound defensive.
  • Balance End

Note: In the spur of the exercise, it is likely that the players get out of the fund to commit to a lack of kick stepping inside the court (remember that you can ‘bite’ the line, but never stepping inside the court).
