1×1 drill – Action-Reaction

The 1×1 drill – Action-Reaction is fun, fast and variable to practice departures and feints.
Ideal for physical preparation in court because it integrates the series of speed in an exercise of completions and shot.
It also serves to work the standard ‘Ball returned to back track‘ (art. 30 of the Rules of FIBA).

Initial layout and description

exercise, exercise, basketball, 1x1, 1c1, action, reaction

We divided the group in two lines facing each other (one row of balls and one row without balls), separated by the central circle. The rows are placed along the line of half court.
The exercise begins in the following way. The coach is positioned behind the player with the ball in such a way that the player sitting opposite can’t see the hand of the coach after the player with the ball. The player with the ball can not see the face of the coach. The players will begin to be passed the ball with passes of chest. The coach will have two options to start the 1×1:

  • Give a tactile stimulus
  • To give a visual stimulus

How much has occurred in the stimulus, the player who has not received the stimulus should react.
Recommendation:

  • It is recommended to start the exercise in a way offensive, then in defensive mode, and finally combining both modes.
  • Ensure that the stimuli are distributed so that they are not always the same players to attack or defend. A good way of doing this, is that the player who has not resolved the situation correctly 1×1, either fitting the basket or losing the ball, again in sprint to the next row. For organization and security is important that you’re always on the outside of the pitch.

Tactile stimulus
(to the nearest player to the coach):

exercise, exercise, basketball, 1x1, 1c1, action, reaction
El ejercicio se inicia con estímulo táctil
  • Offensive: The trainer gives a touch with a finger in the back of the nearest player to start the attack.
  • Defensive: The coach lays the 5 fingertips of his hand on the back of the player and gives a subtle push for the player to go to defend after giving a pass.

Visual stimulus
(the player farthest from the coach):

exercise, exercise, basketball, 1x1, 1c1, action, reaction
El ejercicio se inicia con estímulo visual
  • Offensive: With a nod/grimace of the coach to the player farthest from him will start the attack at how much you get.
  • Defensive: the coach will make the gesture of coming to the player in front (to the nearest player to the coach does not see the gesture) so that, after giving the pass to go to defend.

Variants

  • With two balls. The who has not received the signal should be lowered to defend with
    • only one arm available (the other subject of the ball).
    • throwing away his own ball.
  • In the output, the attacker must:
    • go out with a control led (tapping the ball to one side).
    • go out with a certain change of hand.
  • With two balls. The who has not received the signal should be lowered to defend bouncing his ball.
  • Complete only with tickets.
  • Finish with only shots outside the restricted area.
  • Complete only with a triple.
  • Set a maximum number of boats to resolve the situation of the game.
  • To perform the exercise from one of the two end lines for players to play on the court as a whole.
  • In case of only having half court can be performed equally (the only thing that changes is that there is no choice of basket).
  • Exercise 1×1 – Slalom
exercise, exercise, basketball, 1x1, 1c1, action, reaction

By placing a cone, and ‘modulating’ the difficulty of the exercises. Attacker always around and Defender passes by in the middle or also around.

Changing the initial layout by placing the two rows in the bottom line.

Changing the initial layout by placing the two rows in the bottom line and with the player attacking passing by outside of the cone and the defender going through the middle.
